Originally from the Isle of Portland on the Dorset coast, just a few miles from Lyons Hill Farm, Portland are one of the oldest recorded breeds of sheep in the UK.
They are smaller than most commercial breeds and produce lean, fine-textured meat that has a delicate but deep flavour.
Because these sheep take 18 months to reach full maturity, they benefit from two full summers grazing our pastures, and hence why they are sold as hogget, rather than lamb.
We back ourselves completely, so
if you're not convinced there’s a point of genuine difference in the flavour of your meat, please call us and we will make it right.
